The following sample files are taken directly from the atlases.
Albania 1:50,000
All of Albania is covered at the extraordinarily detailed scale of
1:50,000. This is the most detailed set
of topographic maps available for Albania at 1:50,000. 60% of the Soviet maps are between 1985 and
1988 (the southern two-thirds of Albania).
40% of the Soviet maps are 1974 to 1977 (the northern third of
Albania). One small area is missing in
the northeast and has been replaced with a German topographic map from
1941. Click

The atlas includes Soviet topographic maps 1:50,000 in Russian, US

Greece 1:50,000
Over 99% of the land area of Greece is covered at 1:50,000. This is the most complete set of Greece
topographic maps available anywhere at the remarkably detailed scale of
1:50,000. Click

About 24% of the Soviet maps are between 1986 and 1991, 72% are between
1983 to 1985, and 4% are between 1970 and 1982.
Gaps in coverage of Crete are filled with 1940s German topographic maps
which, while usually out of date in terms of roads and urban expansion, are
accurate in terms of elevation and contour lines. The atlas includes Soviet topographic maps
1:50,000 in Russian, US Tactical Pilotage Chart maps 1:500,000 in English, a
Soviet map symbols book in English, and a gazetteer. The gazetteer includes

Turkey 1:100,000
All of the land area of
Turkey is covered at 1:100,000. Detailed
topographic maps of the entire country
of Turkey are almost impossible to find.
This is simply the best complete set of topographic maps of Turkey. Click for map of coverage (863 Kb gif). About 80% of the Soviet maps are between 1979
to 1994, the rest are between 1970 and 1978.
The atlas includes Soviet topographic maps 1:100,000 in Russian, US
Tactical Pilotage Chart maps 1:500,000 in English, a Soviet map symbols book in
English, and a gazetteer. The gazetteer

Cyprus 1:200,000
All of Cyprus is covered at
1:200,000. Click for map of coverage (385 Kb gif). All of the maps are 1990 or 1991. Sometimes there is a small amount of text printed
on the back of Soviet maps at the 1:200,000 scale (but never at other
scales). This text occasionally bleeds
through in the reproduction process.
However, the impact is minimal and never affects the readability of the
map information. The atlas includes
Soviet topographic maps 1:200,000 in Russian, US Tactical Pilotage Chart maps
1:500,000 in English, a Soviet map symbols book in English, and a
gazetteer. The gazetteer includes over
9,000 places. The atlas comes on one disc.

Syria 1:100,000 (central desert 1:200,000)
All of Syria is covered at 1:100,000 except the central desert area which
is covered at 1:200,000. The central
desert area is largely unpopulated. See
the coverage map (378 Kb gif). About 73% of the Soviet maps are between
1980 and 1986, about 7% between 1988 and 1991, and about 20% are between 1971
and 1975. The atlas includes Soviet

1993, and 6% are 1983. All the maps
dated 1983 are in the Golan Heights. The

Egypt 1:200,000
All of Egypt is covered at
1:200,000. While there are more detailed
maps of parts of the Nile River area available elsewhere, this is probably the
best set of topographic maps available for exploring the rest of Egypt, with
coverage of Egypt's vast desert regions
as well as the Nile. Click for map of coverage (297 Kb gif). Some 16% of the Soviet maps are dated 1972,
55% are between 1976 and 1979, and 28% are between 1985 and 1988. Northeast Egypt maps are all between 1985 and
1988. Northeast Egypt includes the
Delta, the north Nile River, the area around Cairo, and the Sinai. Sometimes there is a small amount of text
printed on the back of Soviet maps at the 1:200,000 scale (but never at other
scales). This text occasionally bleeds
through in the reproduction process.
However, the impact is minimal and never affects the readability of the

A note about map dates
Soviet topographic maps can vary in
date from the early 1970s to the early 1990s.
A summary of the map dates for each country is provided above. A list showing each map and its date is
provided in the atlas. The TPC maps were
generally made in the 1990s and 2000s, and thus can provide an update of any
changes in major features.
